This Repository is a collection of notes I took researching No-Code Automation Tools, their deployment models and risks.
TDLR;
These tools are force multipliers - they amplify both productivity AND security risk. Our job is to maximize the former while containing the latter.
Clients will deploy these tools with or without security guidance. Better they do it with your help than discover vulnerabilities in production.
working exploits exist, attack surface is growing, and with AI accelerating exploit development, the window between disclosure and active campaigns is collapsing. The tools securing our AI workflows need securing themselves.
Workflow automation platforms are like power tools - incredibly valuable when used correctly, dangerous when used carelessly. Our job as consultants is to provide the safety equipment and training that lets clients use these tools confidently and productively.
Success = Client achieves business value + you can sleep well at night
Outside security, people love these for:

If it feels repetitive, people will try to automate it.
Closer to home, IT teams are using them for:

Onboarding flows: auto-creating accounts, assigning licenses

Offboarding: revoking access (if you trust it)

Access requests: approvals hooked into chat

Containment: automated security alerts kicking off workflows.
Sounds useful, right? But each flow is also a potential attack surface
Don’t ignore these tools, but don’t underestimate the risks either.
These risks are not hypothetical:
- Broken Access Control: workflows that hand out access too broadly.
- Cryptographic Failures: sensitive data being moved in clear text between connectors.
- Injection: poorly validated input being fed through automations.
- Security Misconfiguration: default permissions left wide open.
- Insecure Design: building flows with zero consideration for abuse.
And more: credential theft, privilege escalation, supply chain issues when one SaaS in your flow gets compromised.
Basically, every classic vuln but now dragged into visual workflow land.

Looks convenient. But imagine what happens if that automation is tampered with. Accounts provisioned with wrong roles, or sensitive data dropped in the wrong place.
So what do we actually do?

Prevent: treat platforms as untrusted, apply zero trust principles.

Observe: log everything, monitor flows like you do network traffic.

Recover: plan for compromise and rollback workflows.

Assign scope and least privilege access: never global permissions.

Don’t hardcode secrets — rotate, vault, manage.

Interpret results critically: don’t assume automation outputs are clean.”
Automation can be friend or foe. If you get ahead of it, it becomes leverage. If you ignore it, it becomes tomorrow’s breach headline.
